Li Auto has launched the new-generation Mega MPV at a lower price, aiming to reinvigorate sales of its flagship electric people-mover.
The new Mega is offered exclusively in a single Home trim, priced at 509,800 RMB (approx. $70,806). That represents a 50,000 RMB cut — roughly $7,000 — compared with the previous generation's Home version, which was priced at 559,800 RMB.
The Mega first arrived in 2024 as Li Auto's most ambitious product yet: a large, battery-electric MPV targeting China's premium family-transport segment. Despite strong initial buzz, sales missed internal targets, and Li Auto responded with a series of price adjustments and feature revisions over the following months.
The new-generation model continues Li Auto's strategy of iterative updates — refining pricing and equipment rather than waiting for a full redesign. By streamlining the lineup to a single trim and trimming the price, the company is betting that better value will drive demand for an otherwise differentiated product in a competitive MPV market.
At its core, the Mega remains a pure-electric vehicle built on Li Auto's dedicated platform, distinguishing it from the brand's more popular range-extended SUVs such as the L-series. The pricing shift suggests Li Auto is recalibrating its expectations for the Mega's role within the brand's portfolio.
Chinese EV makers have been locked in an intensifying price war throughout 2024 and 2025, with margin pressure mounting across the sector. Li Auto's decision to lower the Mega's price underscores the broader industry trend: even well-established brands are unwilling to hold firm on premiums for niche body styles when demand falls short.
Whether the new pricing is enough to turn the Mega into a commercial success remains to be seen. But for Li Auto, it is a clear signal that the MPV — once envisioned as a halo product — now needs every advantage it can get.
