Beijing Benz, the joint venture between BAIC Group and Mercedes-Benz, has celebrated a major milestone with its cumulative vehicle production exceeding 6 million units since operations began at its Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area plant in 2006.

The milestone was underscored by the recent production line rollout of the all-electric GLC SUV, the first mass-produced model built on Mercedes-Benz's MB.EA dedicated EV platform in China. The factory has now produced 15 local models spanning sedans, SUVs, and pure electric vehicles.

Electrified GLC SUV Unveiled

The all-electric GLC rolls off Beijing Benz's line after its July market launch at a starting price of approx. $41,650 (China market 299,900 RMB). Built on an 800V high-voltage electrical architecture, it delivers a CLTC range of 680 km, with a long-range variant extending to 703 km. Power comes from a CATL-sourced ternary lithium battery pack.

DC fast charging from 10 to 80 percent takes just 22 minutes. The vehicle's exterior features a redesigned illuminated grille with 942 polycarbonate backlit particles that light up in sequence, along with star-emblem detailing integrated into the headlights.

Interior and Platform Upgrades

Inside, the GLC features a dual-screen dashboard with 1,000 individually addressable LED backlight zones, a virtual assistant, wireless phone charging, a Burmester 19-speaker audio system, and a large panoramic glass roof. A six-seat layout is available with ventilated and heated second-row independent seats.

Overall dimensions measure 4,949/1,970/1,710 mm (4,933/1,914/1,690 mm for certain trim variants), with a wheelbase of 3,027 mm.

Flexible Manufacturing Hub

Beijing Benz has built a comprehensive manufacturing base covering rear-wheel-drive, front-wheel-drive, and electric vehicle platforms, along with engine and battery assembly. The facility's flexible production capabilities make it one of Mercedes-Benz's key global manufacturing sites.
