BYD dominated China's new-energy vehicle export market in August, shipping 183,746 units overseas and raising its share to 35.4%, up 3.2 percentage points from July.
The result extends the Shenzhen-based automaker's growing lead in international NEV sales. Its August figures represent more than a third of all Chinese NEV exports, underscoring the company's expanding footprint across global markets in Europe, Southeast Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.
In a separate ranking development, Tesla fell to fourth place in China's NEV export leaderboard for the month. The decline marks a shift in the competitive landscape, as BYD continues to pull ahead while other exporters face headwinds from tariffs, logistics constraints and intensifying domestic price competition.
BYD's Export Momentum
BYD's August delivery surge follows a strong start to the year. The company has been aggressively pursuing overseas expansion, leveraging its vertically integrated supply chain — from battery production to in-house chip design — to keep costs competitive on international markets.
The automaker's export portfolio spans its mass-market Seal and Dolphin models alongside its premium Yangwang and Denza lines. BYD has also been ramping up roll-on/roll-off shipping capacity and opening new ports to support its growing fleet of export-bound vehicles.
BYD exported 183,746 NEVs in August, with its share rising 3.2 percentage points from July.
Analysts note that China's NEV export share is now concentrated among a small group of manufacturers, with BYD alone accounting for over a third of total volumes. The trend is expected to persist as the company continues to expand production capacity and launch new models tailored for overseas buyers.
