Chery's Freelander 8 EREV SUV Opens Pre-Sales Starting at approx. $47,208

Chery's Freelander brand launched its first model, the Freelander 8, for pre-sale on August 14 in China. Five trim levels were offered at a pre-sale price range of 339,900–459,900 RMB (approx. $47,208–$63,875).

Design and Dimensions

The Freelander 8 is a mid-to-large SUV built on the i-MAX "AI supercomputing platform." It adopts a rugged, castle-style body design that closely follows the Concept 97 show car, featuring rectangular headlights and a distinctive lower skid plate with a cheetah-tear motif.

The vehicle measures 3,040 mm between axles and uses a 2+2+2 six-seat layout. Black wheel arch cladding and unique side-skirt accents give it a strong crossover look.

Powertrain and Performance

Under the hood, the Freelander 8 uses a range-extender (EREV) powertrain combining a 1.5L turbocharged engine with dual electric motors. The manufacturer claims a 0–100 km/h time of just 4.6 seconds.

Tech and Interior

Inside, the cabin is described as a cross-generational smart cockpit featuring a 15.6-inch central display and a 46.3-inch far-end screen. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 8397 chip powers the infotainment system.

The Freelander 8 is equipped with an 896-line LiDAR sensor and a binocular perception camera, enabling the i-ATS intelligent all-terrain system to achieve millimeter-level recognition accuracy for terrain scanning.

Driver-assistance is handled by Huawei's Qiankun ADS 5 system.

Brand Context

Freelander is a new brand under Chery Automobile, positioned above Chery's mainstream lineup. The Freelander 8 is the brand's debut model, targeting buyers seeking a large seven-seat EREV with premium off-road styling and advanced smart-cockpit and ADAS features.
