Huawei and Dongfeng Motor's automotive partnership brand Epicland is reportedly exploring a battery-swap model, according to CnEVPost. If the plan proceeds, Epicland would join an emerging group of brands within Huawei's automotive ecosystem to adopt battery-swap technology.

Battery swapping — where a depleted battery pack is exchanged for a fully charged one in minutes — has long been championed by NIO as a practical alternative to slow plug-in charging. However, the approach has struggled to gain widespread traction across the broader industry, with most new EV brands favoring fast-charging solutions.

The move by Epicland comes as a growing number of new energy brands are reconsidering battery swapping, prompted by persistent range anxiety, uneven charging infrastructure in lower-tier cities, and the limitations of even ultra-fast charging during peak travel periods.

Within Huawei's automotive partnership portfolio — which includes brands such as AITO, Stelato, Luxeed and others — Epicland would be among the first to seriously explore a swap-compatible model. Huawei itself has not publicly committed to a battery-swap strategy for its partnership ecosystem, leaving the door open for individual brands to pursue the approach independently.

The decision would align Epicland with a small but vocal segment of the Chinese NEV market that sees battery swapping as a viable differentiator, particularly for brands targeting practical, cost-conscious buyers who prioritize convenience over cutting-edge charging speeds.

Details on timing, pricing and technical specifications remain undisclosed. It is unclear whether Epicland would develop its own swap network or partner with an existing operator such as NIO or China Automotive Energy Supply (CHJ).
