SAIC Volkswagen has launched the ID. ERA 5S sedan in China, priced from approximately $13,260 (95,390 RMB). The new model represents the brand's first sedan in the ID. ERA family and Volkswagen's first sedan globally to support urban navigation on autopilot (City NOA).

The ID. ERA 5S is offered in two variants. The standard-range version delivers a CLTC-rated driving range of 515 km, while the extended-range variant provides up to 575 km. Both versions are powered by Volkswagen's sixth-generation battery pack and are expected to benefit from faster charging capabilities.

The vehicle measures 4,812 mm in length, 1,858 mm in width, and 1,471 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,804 mm, placing it in the mid-size sedan segment. The design follows Volkswagen's latest "ID. DNA" exterior language, featuring flush door handles, full-width LED lighting, and available multi-tone paint finishes.

Inside, the cabin emphasizes sustainability with eco-friendly materials and a minimalist layout. Key features include a 13.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a floating 15-inch central touchscreen running Volkswagen's VAS 3.0 smart cockpit system, a 12-speaker Dynaudio sound system, and a panoramic glass sunroof.

Driver assistance remains a core strength of the model. Safety technologies include adaptive cruise control, intelligent emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency steering, and highway assist. The car also supports keyless entry and start via an NFC card or smartphone.

The ID. ERA 5S is manufactured at SAIC Volkswagen's Anting plant in Shanghai, which has a production capacity of 300,000 units per year. This facility utilizes Volkswagen's MEB platform, which is adaptable for both pure electric vehicles and range-extended electric vehicles.

SAIC Volkswagen has committed to introducing 12 new models in 2026 across pure electric, hybrid, and internal combustion categories.
