Three 100,000-RMB-Class NEV Sedans Compared: ID. ERA 5S, BYD Seal 06, Galaxy L6

SAIC Volkswagen's ID. ERA 5S, BYD's Seal 06 Max DM-i and Geely's Galaxy L6 EM-i square off in China's competitive 100,000 RMB sedan segment, each offering distinct trade-offs in smart-driving features, range and pricing.

China's sub-100,000 RMB new-energy sedan segment is heating up as SAIC Volkswagen, BYD and Geely each pitch their latest plug-in models against one another. The latest comparison from Pconline looks at the SAIC Volkswagen ID. ERA 5S, the BYD Seal 06 Max DM-i and the Geely Galaxy L6 EM-i on price, smart-driving hardware and efficiency.

The ID. ERA 5S carries a limited-time launch price of 89,900–119,900 RMB (approx. $12,486–$16,806). It is equipped with a self-developed L2++ driving-assistance system built on a Horizon Journey chip and powered by GAIA 2.0 and HS8 end-to-end models. Features include city NOA, highway NOA, automated parking (APA and AVP), a 540-degree camera and AEB rated for speeds up to 140 km/h — a first for a Volkswagen-branded sedan globally.

Under the hood sits Volkswagen's "Gold Super Hybrid" powertrain, combining a 1.5-litre dedicated hybrid engine with an 18-in-1 integrated gearbox. In independent tests by the China Automotive Technology and Research Center, the ID. ERA 5S achieved a combined range of 2,033.8 km and a pure-electric range of 207.5 km, with a reported combined fuel consumption of 1.25 L/100 km.

Body structure uses 86% high-strength steel with 30% hot-formed steel, dual galvanised plating and cavity wax injection for corrosion resistance. Pro and Max trims carry seven airbags. Dimensions are 4,836 × 1,880 × 1,505 mm with a 2,766 mm wheelbase; the boot offers 486 litres of cargo space and a 15.6-inch infotainment screen.

The BYD Seal 06 Max DM-i is priced at 99,900–141,900 RMB (approx. $13,875–$19,708). It features BYD's "God's Eye" LiDAR-assisted driver aid with auto-parking, highway navigation assist and narrow-road U-turn capability. A plug-in-hybrid-specific blade battery, seven airbags (on most trims) and a 1.5-litre engine paired with BYD's fifth-generation DM technology complete the package. BYD claims a CLTC pure-electric range of 230 km on the entry model and a NEDC fuel consumption of 2.59 L/100 km. Dimensions measure 4,870 × 1,890 × 1,495 mm with a 2,820 mm wheelbase and a 550-litre boot.

Geely's Galaxy L6 EM-i is the least expensive of the three at 79,800–106,800 RMB (approx. $11,083–$14,833). It offers a basic L2 suite — ICC, ACC and FCW — along with a 540-degree camera that adds a 180-degree underbody view. Built on Geely's e-CMA platform with a six-airbag baseline and a dedicated EV hybrid powertrain with an 11-in-1 gearbox, it claims a CLTC pure-electric range of 140 km and a consumption figure of 2.9 L/100 km. Exterior dimensions are 4,782 × 1,875 × 1,489 mm, wheelbase 2,752 mm, with a 454-litre boot.

Across the three, the ID. ERA 5S leads on total range and low-speed fuel economy, the Seal 06 offers the longest pure-electric range and most extensive LiDAR-based ADAS, and the Galaxy L6 EM-i undercuts both on entry price.
