SAIC-Volkswagen's Anhui joint venture has slashed the starting price of its ID. UNYX 08 mid-size SUV to approx. $26,375 (China market 189,900 RMB), a 17.4% drop from its launch price earlier this year.
The revised pricing marks one of the fastest price adjustments since the model went on sale in April, underscoring the intensifying competition in China's new-energy vehicle segment. The ID. UNYX 08 was introduced with a higher starting price before VW Anhui rolled out the limited-time offer.
Aggressive Pricing in a Crowded Market
China's NEV market has become one of the most price-sensitive globally, with domestic brands frequently adjusting prices to maintain market share. Legacy automakers such as Volkswagen are now facing similar pressure to remain competitive against homegrown competitors offering comparable technology at lower costs.
The ID. UNYX 08 slots into the mid-size electric SUV segment, a category that has seen rapid growth in China as consumer demand shifts toward more spacious electric vehicles. The price cut positions the model more aggressively against rivals from BYD, Geely and other established and emerging brands.
Volkswagen has been accelerating its electrification efforts in China, its largest auto market. The ID. UNYX 08 is part of the company's localised product strategy under its joint venture with SAIC Motor, aimed at tailoring offerings to Chinese consumer preferences.
The limited-time price reduction has not yet been clarified in terms of duration or specific trim-level eligibility, and further details on incentives or trade-in programmes are expected to be announced separately.
