Xpeng has rolled off its first right-hand-drive G9L SUVs from its Guangzhou manufacturing plant, clearing a major hurdle for the model's export to markets where vehicles drive on the left.

The G9L — a right-hand-drive variant of Xpeng's mid-size electric SUV — is set to reach 64 countries and regions worldwide. The move underscores the brand's accelerating overseas expansion, with Australia among the key destinations.

China's new-energy-vehicle makers have been racing to sell abroad as domestic demand softens and competition intensifies. Export-ready variants, including RHD configurations, are an essential prerequisite for entering the Australian, Japanese, UK and other left-hand-drive markets.

The G9L features Xpeng's latest smart-cockpit and intelligent-driving technology, built on the company's advanced vehicle architecture. Production at the Guangzhou plant signals that the brand is moving beyond prototype runs into volume manufacturing capable of supporting international deliveries.

Australia represents one of the most competitive and regulated EV markets outside Asia, with established players such as Tesla, BYD and Hyundai already selling electrified models there. Xpeng's entry with the G9L will face scrutiny on pricing, charging-network access and after-sales support.

The rollout comes as Chinese automakers continue to broaden their global footprint, leveraging cost-competitive EV platforms and increasingly sophisticated software features to win buyers in Europe, Southeast Asia and Oceania.
